Description of Service
The Vocational Rehabilitation program assesses the vocational, behavioral, and independent/self-help skills of mentally challenged individuals and exposes them to a variety of activities to help them improve skills in needed areas. Habilitation services include vocational evaluation, the student transition program, vocational training and work opportunities, classroom instruction, and volunteer activities assist individuals in achieving self-sufficiency.
Volunteer opportunities allow individuals to access the community, build relationships, and serve others. Community-based recreational activities allow individuals to interact with friends and peers in a more social setting.
Those who have the potential to be competitively employed will participate in Personal Work Adjustment Training (PWAT). This program provides work opportunities to develop and strengthen behaviors essential for job success. An additional goal of PWAT is to enhance pre-employment skills such as completing resumes and job applications and to learn interviewing skills.
Subcontract jobs provide monetary compensation and help improve individual self esteem. In addition to workshop based operations, off-site opportunities may also be available.
