Description of Service
The Community Access Program (CAP) gives participants, individuals with developmental disabilities, experience with paid work, volunteer work, and social/recreational activities, as well as job search training. Services provided include Life Skills Training, which helps with health, hygiene, socialization, and learning appropriate behaviors for functioning in the community; social/recreational activities to supplement classroom instruction and allow the opportunity to practice interpersonal and physical skills; vocational values clarification and exposure to work to help to define expectations of work; volunteerism, which allows the opportunity to participate in community activities, and on-the-job-evaluations, with assessments according to ability levels.

Referrals can be made through local organizations, such as Mental Health/Intellectual Disabilities, Office of Vocational Rehabilitation, school district personnel, BLAST IU #17, community organizations, family members, and self-referrals. All referrals must meet eligiblity standards and licensing requirements
