Description of Service
Provides access to a variety of energy assistance programs so families can maintain their utility services, including Customer Assistance Program (CAP) and Customer Assistance and Referral Evaluation Service (CARES). CAP helps low-income, payment troubled customers of Duquesne Light establish manageable payment plans that enable them to maintain electric service and move them toward self-sufficiency. CARES assists customers who have had their electric services terminated or are at risk of having their service terminated. Also screens for Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and Dollar Energy Fund.
If a person is homebound, they should leave a message with the requested information name and Duquesne Light account number-and request a home visit.
Walk-in only. Must register by 12:00pm.
The following documents are needed:
Proof of income for all household members for the last 30 days,
Social Security cards of all household members,
A current bill or the address that the applicant is moving to if in need of help with a deposit,
If claiming no income, the applicant must fill out paperwork on-site,
The person named on the bill must come in to apply.
A representative for Columbia Gas is on the premises the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month from 9:00am to 4:00pm. For regular CAP appointments, please arrive before 12:00. Also, after hours appointments can be made by calling the center.
