General Information
Description of ServiceVA Pittsburgh Healthcare System's Spinal Cord Injury and Disease (SCI/D) Clinic provides coordinated, interdisciplinary health care to veterans who meet VA's criteria for spinal cord injury/disorders.

The mission is to support and maintain the health, independence, quality of life, and productivity of veterans with spinal cord injury and disorders throughout their lives. These objectives are accomplished through rehabilitation, sustaining medical and surgical care, psychological support, patient education, and family caregiver support.

VA has the largest single network of SCI/D care in the nation. VA services are delivered through a “hub and spoke” system of care, extending from regional SCI/D centers offering primary care by multidisciplinary teams (hubs) to the SCI/D primary care teams (spokes) at local VA medical centers.

The VA Pittsburgh SCI Primary Care Clinic is a spoke clinic operating under the clinical supervision of the Cleveland VA SCI Center. The Pittsburgh SCI/D Clinic provides comprehensive annual evaluations that focus on the management of long-term complications of spinal cord injuries in addition to specialized prevention and medical treatment. The VA Pittsburgh SCI multidisciplinary team is comprised of the SCI primary care physician, physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians, a clinic coordinator/ social worker, a clinical nurse specialist, a physical therapist, an occupational therapist, a healthcare technician and a psychologist. The clinic is located at the Heinz campus and operates On Mondays and Wednesdays. The SCl/D Primary Clinic has an established relationship with the local chapter of Paralyzed Veterans of America.
