General Information
Description of ServiceVA Pittsburgh Healthcare System's Local Recovery Coordinator (LRC) develops and provides consultation and oversight of new and existing recovery-based programs.

The LRC also offers trainings and in-service for VA staff to enhance their understanding of mental health recovery and healing. The LRC chairs the Recovery Action Committee, a group dedicated to promoting recovery initiatives throughout the facility, highlighted during Mental Health Month (May) and during Mental Illness Awareness Week (October). The LRC also serves as the peer support program coordinator and is responsible for the screening and training of peers.

The Peer Support Program is a newer initiative in psychiatric rehabilitation. This program recruits and trains veterans who have a diagnosis of mental illness and empowers them in their recovery to serve as volunteer peer support to their fellow veterans. The trained peers work in both group and individual settings. This initiative exemplifies recovery through partnership with one another.
