General Information
Description of ServiceThe Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Vet Centers are a type of VA health care facility designed to provide outreach and readjustment counseling services through 232 community-based Vet Centers located in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Services are also available for their family members for military related issues. Veterans have earned these benefits through their service and all are provided at no cost to the Veteran or family. Readjustment counseling is wide range of services provided to combat veterans in the effort to make a satisfying transition from military to civilian life.
Services include individual counseling, group counseling, marital and family counseling, bereavement counseling, medical referrals, assistance in applying for VA Benefits, employment counseling, guidance and referral, alcohol/drug assessments, information and referral to community resources, military sexual trauma counseling & referral, outreach and community education.

Intake ProcedureApply for your VA benefits at your Local Regional Offices: VA regional offices can assist you with filing the appropriate VA forms.Also, to apply for a specific benefit, visit Applying for Benefits. In addition, VSO's (Veteran Service Organizations) can assist you as well by answering general questions and even petitioning on your behalf for services they believe you are qualified to receive.
Helpful TipsVet Centers do not require enrollment in the VHA Health Care System.

EligibilityVeterans are eligible if they served on active duty in a combat theater during World War II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Gulf War, or the campaigns in Lebanon, Grenada, Panama, Somalia, Bosnia, Kosovo, Afghanistan, Iraq and the Global War on Terror. Veterans, who served in the active military during the Vietnam-era, but not in the Republic of Vietnam, must have requested services at a Vet Center before Jan. 1, 2004.
