General Information
Description of ServiceOffers several ways to help local people in need meet and overcome transportation challenges.

As funds allow, NHCO can provide one-time assistance for Vehicle Ownership or Transportation expenses to those who are at or below 150% of the poverty level and reside in NHCO’s service area of northern Allegheny County outside of the City of Pittsburgh.

Vehicle Ownership Expenses such as vehicle repair, insurance payment to avoid break in coverage, vehicle payment to avoid repossession, gas cards, car seats, AAA membership

Transportation Expenses such as CONNECT cards for public transportation; Ride share for job interview, to get to a job, or other necessary appointment.

Vehicle Purchases
When funds allow, NHCO may match funds of up to $1,000 for those planning to purchase a vehicle that is needed to get to work.

The program is funded by donations of vehicles, which are sold at auction. Vehicle donors can receive a tax deduction. Free pickup or towing.

  • Northern Allegheny County Resident, living outside of the City of Pittsburgh

    For most Transportation Assistance services: 150% of poverty level and live in northern AC outside of City limits.

    To receive matching funds to buy a car:
  • Household income at or below the 250% of Federal Poverty Level Income Guideline, based upon household size. Click here to see a chart with income eligibility details.
  • Working a minimum of 25 hours per week or job offer letter in hand
  • Valid Driver's License
