General Information
Description of ServiceProvides free civil legal services to low income individuals and families without the means to hire a private attorney. Provides representation to survivors of domestic violence in Protection from Abuse (PFA) proceedings. May provide direct representation, advice, assistance in self-representation, brief service, limited legal assistance or referral to a private attorney (including free and reduced-fee), depending on case. Provides community education on legal topics.

While NLSA does not provide assistance with Veterans' Benefits, they can provide legal assistance to eligible veterans who are having problems with their housing, utilities, or other issues within NLSA's priorities.

Intake ProcedureApplications on-line at https://nlsa.us/ are preferred by using the “Get Legal Help” link in the upper right corner of the page. Calls or walk-ins are also accepted: Call between 9 a.m. to noon or walk-in between 9 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
Additional RequirementsMust be a US Citizen or a documented immigrant. Not all documented immigrants are serviced.
Documents RequiredProof of documented immigration status if applies.
Helpful TipsAnyone without an emergency will be asked to access services by calling either their local office or the toll-free number.

Only those in an emergency situation will have a file opened through the walk-in process. Walk-in office hours: Monday through Friday.

EligibilityIncome based: Gross Income for most services must be at or below 125% of the Federal Poverty Level except in Protection from Abuse matters where there are no income limits or mortgage foreclosure where the limit is 187.5% of poverty.
