York Habitat for HumanityYork Habitat for Humanity is one of 1,500 U.S. affiliates of Habitat for Humanity International, dedicated to providing safe, decent, affordable home-ownership to people living in substandard housing, or paying more than 30% of their income on rent. In Habitat's unique homeownership program, simple, affordable homes are constructed through generous contributions of money, labor, materials, and skilled trades by individuals, churches, businesses, and groups in the community. Qualifying homeowner candidates completing program requirements purchase Habitat's low-cost homes via 30-year, zero-interest mortgages held by Habitat. The mortgage payments go toward building new homes in York County. "Corporate Build Days" and week-long "work camps" provide fun, hands-on, team-building, service opportunities for up to ten people, age 16 and older.
