    Programs that pay all or a portion of the gas service expenses of people whose gas has been or is at risk of being shut off. Also included are non-emergency programs like those funded through the federal Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), also referred to as LIEAP or HEAP in some states, that provide home energy assistance, generally in the form of a credit, for low-income households that apply. The assistance is usually available once per calendar year (or heating season). Gas service payment assistance programs may have age, income, disability, need or other eligibility requirements.

    Army Emergency ReliefArmy Emergency Relief (AER) is a non-profit, charitable organization independent of, but closely associated with the United States Army. Army Emergency Relief helps US Army soldiers and their dependents, by providing emergency aid, in the form of either a direct grant (a cash gift, not to be repaid) or an interest-free loan, and by giving college scholarships to children of soldiers. Under Army regulations, officers must recommend whether their soldiers deserve aid. Emergency Aid Help with emergency financial needs for:

    Loans up to $1000 do not require command recommendation, and there is no limit to the amount of funds Army Emergency Relief may authorize. Officers are responsible for ensuring that their soldiers repay AER loans. Scholarships Army Emergency Relief maintains two scholarship programs – the Spouse Education Assistance Program and the MG James Ursano Scholarship Program for dependent children. Both scholarships provide financial assistance for students who are pursuing their first undergraduate degree. Scholarship applications are accepted from 1 January to 1 May each year for assistance for the following academic year. Scholarship award amounts are not guaranteed and vary each year based on the total number of applicants in each program and budget amount allotted to the scholarship programs. Energy Bank provides a one-time payment of up to $500 per household that may not be extended as credit and excludes payment of arrears and penalty, maintenance, security deposits, or installment fees. If an individual is age 65 or older, has been a resident of Juniata or Mifflin County for a minimum of 90 consecutive days, has been denied LIHEAP or has exhausted both cash and crisis LIHEAP allocations for the current heating season, has proven to be without a primary heat source, and has income to sustain household expenses for the upcoming 30 days, application to Energy Bank may be made. Energy Bank provides a one-time payment of up to $500 per household annually to qualifying individuals ages 65 or older with no implementation of copayment based on gross household income. Financial assistance may not be extended as credit and excludes payment of arrears, penalties, maintenance, security deposits and/or installment fees. In addition to diverting an immediate heating crisis, Energy Bank will assist individuals in planning for heating needs through financial planning education and energy conservation and weatherizing resources to alleviate heating crisis in the future. Personal paperwork including photo identification, social security card, statement of LIHEAP denial, and proof of income and expenses is required to verify need for financial assistance.     UGI Central Penn Gas - Operation Share Energy FundSince 1983, the Operation Share Energy Fund has provided energy assistance grants to qualified customers who experience difficulty paying their heating bills. The Fund helps customers who have trouble paying their winter heating bills due to problems such as low or fixed income, unemployment, disability, sudden death or serious injury/illness of the household's main income provider. The Fund became a 501c3 non-profit in 2005. This community-based program is funded by voluntary donations from UGI employees, UGI customers and concerned citizens. In addition, UGI provides a corporate donation to help fund the program. UGI personnel work with over 25 agencies to administer Operation Share funds.
