    VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance), Mifflin Juniata Human ServicesVITA provides free tax preparation to low-and moderate - income families through the United Way's Money in Your Pocket Campaign. The program is designed to help working families in our community claim all available tax credits while saving them the trouble of paying high tax preparations fees and refund anticipation loan interest rates. Volunteers receive IRS tax training and certification through the IRS or in person at the United Way. The taxpayer may file income taxes as long as they have earned income. Sites are by appointment only. Weekday, evening, and Saturday morning appointments are available. If the taxpayer's household income is under $54,000 they may qualify for free income tax preparation. They need to call the office to set up an appointment. There is a series of questions before an appointment is made. The taxpayer must have a valid photo ID and original Social Security Card's for all dependents. They will also need to bring copes of all forms such as: W-2, 1098, 1099, and a prior year tax return if a copy is available.
