Programs that protect the public health through comprehensive efforts to track the incidence and distribution of disease in the population and prevent, control and eradicate vaccine-preventable diseases, vector and food-borne illnesses, diseases that are transmitted person-to-person and other diseases that are spread by direct or indirect contact. Activities include routine surveillance of communicable disease activity, assessment of the community immunization level through school records and immunization studies, investigation of epidemic outbreaks, reporting of cases of infectious diseases to the proper authorities and taking appropriate measures such as isolation and contact tracing/notification to prevent disease transmission.

AC Health Department Infectious Diseases ProgramChildhood immunizations are administered to children and supplied to area health care providers. Vaccines not yet available through federal programs are given at cost. A wide range of adult immunizations namely travel, flu, and pneumonia-are administered on a walk-in basis. Bethlehem Health BureauServices include: Environmental Health services include sanitation, animal control, lead abatement and food services. Clinic services: - The Women's GYN Clinic, immunization clinic and TB clinic are available by appointment only. - Wellness Center at the Health Bureau offers some immunizations and health screenings. Open Mon and Fri, 1pm-3pm. Appointments preferred. - STD Clinic is offered at St. Luke's Hospital, 3rd Floor - East Wing on Monday from 5pm to 7pm. Free to City of Bethlehem residents, $40 for non-residents. Emergency Preparedness Division educates individuals and businesses on preparing for natural disasters, epidemics and/or other emergencies. Recruits and trains the medical reserve corps, a medical related volunteer corps that can be mobilized in response to disasters. Maternal and Child Health services include free dental care for uninsured children attending Bethlehem school district and in-home asthma trigger assessments. Chronic Disease and Health Education Programs focus on smoking prevention/cessation, injury prevention, diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular disease and osteoporosis.
