Programs that are responsible for preventing, investigating, controlling and extinguishing fires. Activities include fire safety education, firefighting, investigating the causes of suspicious fires, maintaining equipment and trained firefighters necessary for a quick and efficient response to fires when they occur, and enforcing fire codes which protect lives and property from fires and explosions arising from the storage, handling and use of hazardous substances, materials and devices, or from conditions hazardous to life and property in the use or occupancy of buildings or other premises.

Fire and Emergency Operations Services - WilliamsportThe Bureau of Fire serves the City of Williamsport, the county seat for Lycoming County. One of its divisions is Operations and Prevention. Its services include, but are not limited to: fire suppression, vehicle rescue, water rescue, technical rescue, emergency medical quick response, fire inspections, fire investigations, and emergency management administration. In 2004 the Bureau was given the responsibility of administering emergency management for the City. Non-emergency Fire Department Contact-City of Lock HavenThe Fire Department is made up of three volunteer companies; Citizens, Hand-in-Hand, and Hope Hose, all funded by the City. The City employs a total of 9 fire personnel (3 full-time and 6 part-time drivers) who provide manpower at each station form 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. 7 days a week. On call fire personnel cover the remaining hours. This system provides for a rapid response to any and all emergencies in the City at anytime of the day or night.
