|Army Emergency Relief||Army Emergency Relief (AER) is a non-profit, charitable organization independent of, but closely associated with the United States Army.
Army Emergency Relief helps US Army soldiers and their dependents, by providing emergency aid, in the form of either a direct grant (a cash gift, not to be repaid) or an interest-free loan, and by giving college scholarships to children of soldiers. Under Army regulations, officers must recommend whether their soldiers deserve aid.
Help with emergency financial needs for:|
Loans up to $1000 do not require command recommendation, and there is no limit to the amount of funds Army Emergency Relief may authorize. Officers are responsible for ensuring that their soldiers repay AER loans.
Army Emergency Relief maintains two scholarship programs – the Spouse Education Assistance Program and the MG James Ursano Scholarship Program for dependent children. Both scholarships provide financial assistance for students who are pursuing their first undergraduate degree.
Scholarship applications are accepted from 1 January to 1 May each year for assistance for the following academic year.
Scholarship award amounts are not guaranteed and vary each year based on the total number of applicants in each program and budget amount allotted to the scholarship programs.

|Child Safety Seat Program, Safety Saturdays, and Cribs for Kids||The Chambersburg Fire Department, in conjunction with IAFF Local 1813 and the Pennsylvania Traffic Injury Prevention Program, is proud to sponsor a car seat inspection station. Four of the Departments career firefighters are certified as car seat technicians. The technicians will inspect your seat to confirm correct installation that, in turn, ensures your child's safety. Also, they can install new seats and train parents on proper installation of the seat. The car seat inspection station is open to the public. In addition to installing and checking seats the technicians are available to answer questions about car seats and vehicle passenger safety systems. Rental car seats are available on a limited basis through the PennDOT Loaner Program. These seats are rented for $10.00 to anyone requesting one. When the seat is returned, $5.00 is refunded to the renter. The seat may be rented short term or long term (up to 6 years) for the same price. Rental seats are limited, so please inquire about availability when you call to schedule an appointment.
Cribs for Kids provides a crib and safe sleep education to families with infants age birth to 9 months. Financial need must be demonstrated for this program, sponsored by Hershey Medical Center and the Chambersburg Fire Department. Please contact the Department at 717-263-5872, option 1 for more information.
Safety Saturdays are held the first Saturday of the month, rain or shine. The events are held at 130 N. Second St., at the Fire Station, from 10:00 to 2:00. A certified technician will be committed to the event to install or check car seats. We will have car seat rentals while supplies last, cribs for the Cribs for Kids Program, a different safety topic each month, and fire prevention materials. The event is free and open to all. (There is still a $10.00 charge to rent a car seat)
