    Give an Hour - Counseling for VeteransProvides complimentary and confidential mental health counseling to returning troops and their families, especially the troops and families affected by the current military conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq. Volunteer therapists provide counseling to veterans, who then perform volunteer service for a community organization. Telephone counseling is also available. Our providers are licensed mental health professionals who have agreed to provide services in their areas of expertise. They generously agree to provide one hour per week of mental health support at no charge. Our providers agree to participate in the Give an Hour network for a minimum of one year. We offer comprehensive psychiatric assessments and make recommendations for inpatient or outpatient treatment or finding appropriate resources. Our services are offered over the phone or in person. Crisis workers and a psychiatrist meet with an individual and conduct a comprehensive assessment. When appropriate, a nurse practitioner or psychologist will be made part of the assessment team. Any individuals with medical conditions are assessed by a physician’s assistant or psychiatrist and may be referred to a local general hospital for further evaluation/treatment.
