    Give an Hour - Counseling for VeteransProvides complimentary and confidential mental health counseling to returning troops and their families, especially the troops and families affected by the current military conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq. Volunteer therapists provide counseling to veterans, who then perform volunteer service for a community organization. Telephone counseling is also available. Our providers are licensed mental health professionals who have agreed to provide services in their areas of expertise. They generously agree to provide one hour per week of mental health support at no charge. Our providers agree to participate in the Give an Hour network for a minimum of one year. Our providers are aware that Give an Hour is a nonpolitical organization whose mission is to assist military personnel and their families as they cope with the effects of deployment and combat. Our providers agree to conduct their practice using the highest ethical standards and to respect and honor the dignity and individuality of those who seek their assistance.     Veterans Health Administration, Pittsburgh Vet CenterThe Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Vet Centers are a type of VA health care facility designed to provide outreach and readjustment counseling services through 232 community-based Vet Centers located in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Services are also available for their family members for military related issues. Veterans have earned these benefits through their service and all are provided at no cost to the Veteran or family. Readjustment counseling is wide range of services provided to combat veterans in the effort to make a satisfying transition from military to civilian life. Call centers provide information on Vet Center locations and referral for all counseling services, as well as substance abuse, medical issues and employment services. A suicide hotline is available 24 hours a day.
